Q: How do you make the best cup of coffee with your french press????
We have a French Press Coffee Maker (it's small for just 2 cups), my husband got it as a present over ten years ago. I LOVE IT!
However, lately, my coffee just doesn't seem to be as good as it use to. I buy organice coffee that I grind myself. I'm just looking for a better technique for a better coffee??
How do you store your coffee for the best flavor and freshness???
Do you grind your own or is it pre-ground???
Some people have told me not to boil my water, because it scalds the beans??? Is this true?
How many beans is too much? (I normally spoon it 4 large spoons)
How long do you let your coffee before you press it??
I don't know if I forgot something or if it just the way I am making it these days, but my coffee seems too strong and lacking in flavor(which I thought I would never admit). Plus I can't find that ideal taste anymore. Sometimes I feel like it a sludge almost.
I've tried less coffee but it's like water.
Any suggestions???
Thanks!
I grind my beans on a weekly basis at the begining of the week, & store them in a sir tight ceramic containter in the fridge.
Some people say to use the freezer, but I have been told that takes out the oils in the beans.
I'm lost and needing guidence ...!
That was subpose to be "air tight" container ... sorry.
I rinse the coffee press daily and clean it on the weekends.
I will try the vinegar idea with my kettle, that is a good thought.
I use good water for my coffee, so I am content with that.
A: Water quality makes a huge difference in the flavour of coffee.
I'd suggest trying first to clean (or "descale") your kettle, or whatever you use to boil your water. Just fill it with regular white vinegar and bring to a boil. Discard vinegar (or save it to descale another appliance!) and rinse kettle with cold water. Fill with cold water and boil again. Repeat rinsing & boiling with fresh cold water 2 more times.
You can do the same with your coffee maker to remove any kind of buildup in it.
If that doesn't make a difference, try using different water, like filtered (ie: brita) or bottled.
Next I'd try replacing the coffee maker's filter, maybe it's becoming a bit clogged? (although the vinegar process should clean out the filter too).
If none of this works I'd try a different brand of coffee. It's possible that either your tastes have changed, or the producer is having a bad crop season, or maybe the quality of your brand has dropped.
Honestly, there are so many possibilities, I think you just need to play around with all the variables until you find yourself with a fabulous cup of coffee again!
Q: What is the size of a "cup" of coffee?
Wikipedia says it's 6 oz but my Mr Coffee is calibrated in 5oz "cups" and my Braun coffee maker is calibrated in 4.2 oz "cups". This is all rather irrelevant because most people drink coffee in mugs that are 12 oz or more, but it's annoying. It must be very confusing to some people.
A: I have a '12 cup' U.S. made coffee machine. I make 8 cups of coffee and get 2.5 cups of coffee out of it. I measured the cups one time and they are only 4 oz. which means when I have company I am constantly having to make another pot of coffee. I wish the manufactors would wake up to the fact that most of us drink a lot more than 4 oz of coffee at a time!
Q: Can anyone help me! I have a 25 year old corning stove top coffee maker purk not sure how 2 use?
Its a 6 cup with a twist top dont know how to set that., and a twist on the spring loaded filter stem.
Do you twist it down? Do you leave it floating? When it starts to purk shut it off? How long should it purk? I love this old thing,Please, someone help me use it properly I want to use it right!
A: Don't know if this will work with yours, but no you don't twist it down the top will twist around and holds it.When it perks it takes about 5 minutes, done.Don't fill all to the top it will boil over.leave about a cup of spaceEnjoy.
Q: Question about the coffee to water ratio when making coffee.?
All right. So i bought a coffee maker that grinds the WHOLE coffee bean for you then it automatically drops the coffee grounds into the basket. How much WHOLE coffee beans should i put in and how much water should i put in if i plan on making 2 cups of coffee?
A: Coffee is measured in 5 ounces per cup. A 12 cup pot is 60 ounces and you use no less than 2 ounces (about 2 tablespoons) of coffee to brew. You do the math. I don't know how many beans that would be. there should be directions on the package of beans or on the maker/grinder you have. (My maker says not to brew coffee with less than 2 ounces no matter how much water you use because if you don't use at least that much coffee, it will be oily.)
Q: How much coffee do i add?
I have a little 4 cup coffee maker...and first off, i cant figure out what 4 cups means...because it cant be 4 measuring cups...cuz its too small for that...what do they mean 4 cups? cuz it only fills about 1 1/2 mugs.
secondly...how much coffee do i put in for 4 cups of coffee? im just using regular folgers coffee.
A: one heaping tablespoon should do it
